You want to attend college but feel like you can’t afford it. What options do you have?
- Try some scholarships. This is especially true if you’re a single parent or a non-traditional student. If you’re going to be a math or science major, scholarships are set aside for hard workers like you. Interestingly, many scholarships are not picked up and go unused simply because students don’t know they are out there. Schools offer scholarships as do online sources.
- Attending online college classes may be a solution for you. Classes are usually less expensive, plus the fact that you’re not using your car or heading out for lunch by the college, can really save you some big bucks.
- Get a loan. Bank loans through your school have a low interest rate and don’t start until after you’ve finished with school. Other loans that the school provides can get you through a semester, but make sure you pay your payments on time so that you can register for the following semester.
- Keep it simple. Maybe your life is extremely busy anyway. Take only the courses you can afford. Pay as you go.
- Ask your employer to help you through school. Sometimes companies offer to help pay for college or pay it in full.
- Get a loan from a friend or family member only after you’ve tried everything else. Loans from those you love are perhaps the heaviest burden you will face; especially if you find the loan harder to pay back than you expected.
Because the options for school are as varied as the classes you’ll be taking, make sure you do some research before making your final decision.
