College can be an intimidating and exhausting experience for anyone but even more so for those with disabilities. In the last few decades all institutions of higher learning have met government guidelines to accommodate those with special needs. But now with internet technology making the intellectual world more accessible to the disabled, more and more are choosing to get online degrees.
One of the many reasons that more and more people with disabilities are choosing online degrees is that online degrees are fast becoming the norm and not the exception. Almost every university and college on the planet has some of its curriculum online. Numerous others are providing full online degrees, both bachelor’s and master’s, in a variety of disciplines. As each of these programs gain recognition and respectability, it makes it easier for people with disabilities to gain college degrees and begin careers.
Another reason is that most online degrees are more cost effective for people with disabilities. Online degree programs can be taken from anywhere; therefore, students can stay close to home or with a loved one. Online courses make it unnecessary for disabled students to live in expensive college housing if their sole goal is a bachelor degree and not the college “lifestyle.”
Both parents and institutions alike are seeing the potential benefits of online degrees for the next generation of disabled children. The possibilities are endless.
